| Description: 4-1/2" h, aqua colored glass, aqua colored glass, blown into a mold by hand and then the lip was finished with a separate tool, bottle embossed DR Mc MUNNS ELIXIR OF OPIUM (partially exposed under wrapper), America ca. 1880. Many people were secretly addicted to this product and many people gave it to teething babies to calm them. This had disastrous effects and the FDA was formed by the turn of the century to outlaw the sale of these kinds of products. Here is a rare one with the original wrapper which usually did not survive because instructions for the use of the product were inside. Certificate of Authenticity is available on request (filled out, signed and dated). WHAT A CONVERSATION PIECE with the word OPIUM written all over the wrapper and the bottle. |
