MEDICINE BOTTLES
HGH has a large selection of hand blown 19th and early 20th century patent medicine bottles. Each bottle comes with a certificate of authenticity and a description of the company and the medicine that the bottle contained. Each bottle tells a story of the past!
These bottles are embossed with interesting and unusual claims of curing or remedying common to rare maladies. Before the onset of the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1904, unscrupulous individuals could make any claim they pleased about their product. These ‘cures’, ‘remedys’, liniments’, etc., were mostly made of opiates, cocaine, chloroform, alcohol, herbs, and false hopes. This was common practice in 19th century America. Each bottle is unique because they are all made by hand, and are blown into a mold by a glassblower. Close inspection alows one to see the crudity of manufacture in these lovely peices. Many of these bottles are right off the back of the horse drawn wagons of yesteryear.
